Public Policy Update
Nurse Licensure Compact: ALERT – Your help is urgently needed before Wednesday May 17. The new NLC language is to be voted on in the IL House Healthcare Licenses Committee. It has already passed the IL Senate and we are closer than we have ever been to getting this legislation enacted in IL. Please click here to take action immediately.
The Compact is a major issue for CMSA, because of its significant impact on the practice of many of our members. The Compact language has been significantly re-written over the past year and the changes have resulted in rapid movement in many states and significant new support from many nursing organizations. For more information about the compact click here. You will find excellent information here in addition to a page to help you take action to support the compact. Please follow the link, then choose the “Take Action Page.” It will take less than 10 minutes of your time and could significantly improve the value of your RN license.
National Nurse legislation is another issue that CMSA is supporting. The legislation will designate the Chief Nurse Officer of the US Public Health Service as the National Nurse. It is no cost bipartisan issue which will serve to increase the visibility and effectiveness of nurses and provide a strong forum for nurses to impact public health and safety.
